A photo walk through the Spreeauenpark in Cottbus on the 7th of May, 2008.
The Spreeauenpark was created on the occation of the Bundesgartenschau (called BUGA) in 1995. The BUGA is the federal horticulture show in Germany that takes place every two years. It is a lovely landscaped park with different gardens based on the former landscape in the Lausitz region. There are for example large areas for meadows, diverse flower gardens, trenches, a large pond and a tertiary wood that is unique in Europe. I especially love the tertiary forest.
It is a living copy of the primeval forest of the stream landscape that existed in Lower Lusatia 10 million years ago. To recreate a forest with all its biotops and characteristics on its actual find spot is unique in Europe. Part of this recreation is the turf moor, the exhibition of a fossil Sequoioideae stumb and a path bordered by erratic boulders.
Der Spreeauenpark wurde anlässlich der BUGA 1995 angelegt. Der Park ist wunderschön angelegt und besteht aus verschiedenen Gartenbereichen, die entsprechend der damaligen Landschaft der Lausitz gestaltet wurden. So gibt es große Wiesenbereiche, diverse Blumengärten, Gräben, einen großen Teiche und den Tertiärwald. Diesen mag ich besonders.
Er ist eine lebendige Nachbildung des Urwaldes der Lausitzer Seenlandschaft vor 10 Millionen von Jahren. Die Nachgestaltung des Tertiärwaldes mit seinem Biotop und allen Besonderheiten am ursprünglichen Fundort macht ihn einzigartig in Europa. Teil dieser Nachbildung ist das Kohlemoor, die Ausstellung eines fossilen Mammutbaum-Stammes sowie eine Allee, die von Findlingen gesäumt ist.
