It was a lovely summer day and did not plan to make a tour through the Wildpark. All I wanted were photos from the Kaiserbahnhof and the Forsthaus Sanssouci-Tor, which I had seen only when passing by. But when I got there I found a map that showed me there was more to the forest than I knew before.
So I followed the different paths, which are quite lovely, went looking for the stones with inscriptions on them about the hunting success and enjoyed the forest air. A viewpoint was shown on the map that was called Palais view. When I was cycling through the park I could not imagine how one would be able to see the New Palace… then I found a way up and soon had to walk with my bycicle because it got steeply upwards. When I arrived on top of the hill I was glad for the bench and did indeed see the New Palace from there.

Should you ever plan on making a tour through the Wildpark take something to drink with you! I didn’t plan to stay there for three hours over lunch time, with no food or drink or money to buy anything… The Wildpark spans a forest area of around 870 hectare.

Es war ein herrlicher Sommertag und ich hatte keine große Tour durch den Wildpark geplant. Alles was ich wollte waren ein paar Fotos vom Kaiserbahnhof und dem Forsthaus Sanssouci-Tor, was ich bisher nur beim Vorbeifahren gesehen habe. Als ich dort ankam sah ich einen Plan, der mir zeigte dass der Park mehr zu bieten hatte, als ich erst annahm.

Also bin ich verschiedenen Wegen gefolgt, die allesamt sehr hübsch waren und bin auf die Suche nach den Gedenksteinen über die Jadgerfolge gegangen und habe die frische Luft genossen. Auf dem Plan war ein Aussichtspunkt eingezeichnet, der Palais-Blick heißt. Als ich durch den Park fuhr konnte ich mir nicht vorstellen, dass man vom Wildpark aus das Neue Palais sehen konnte… Dann fand ich einen Weg, der nach oben führte, irgendwann musste ich absteigen und mit Fahrrad den Berg hinauf laufen. Als ich oben ankam war ich sehr froh dass dort eine Bank stand auf der ich mich ausruhen konnte. Von dort oben kann man auch tatsächlich das Neue Palais sehen.

Solltest du jemals einen Ausflug durch den Wildpark planen pack etwas zu trinken ein! Ich hatte nicht geplant für drei Stunden durch den Park zu wandern und das auch noch über die Mittagszeit, ohne Esse, Trinken oder Geld um mir was zu kaufen… Und der Wildpark umfasst ein Waldgebiet von 870 Hektar.

 

Wildpark

The main entrance to the park would be by the Forsthaus Sanssouci-Tor, which lies close to the train station Sanssouci Park, formerly known as the Kaiserbahnhof.

Der Haupteingang zum Park befindet sich beim Forsthaus Sanssouci-Tor, welches gleich am Bahnhof Park Sanssouci, früher als Kaiserbahnhof bekannt, liegt.

Wegestern – Path in star-shape

Peter Joseph Lenné designed the paths throughout the forest like a star, creating 8 different ways. All ways open in a clearing in which a feeding trough was in former days. Nowadays one finds a round bench in the middle.

Peter Joseph Lenné gestaltete Wege durch den Wald, die sternenförmig angelegt waren und in acht Wege resultieren. Alle Wege kommen in einer Lichtung zusammen auf der früher eine Futterstelle war. Heutzutage befindet sich in dessen Mitte eine runde Bank.

Forsthäuser – forester’s house

There are four forester’s houses in the park. Ludwig Persius designed the houses and they were built from 1842 to 1844.

Es gibt vier Forsthäuser im gesamten Park. Ludwig Persius designte die Gebäude und sie wurden zwischen 1842 bis 1844 erbaut.

Kellerberg

From atop the the Kellerberg (63 metres) one has a great view over the forest to Sanssouci Park, especially the New Palace and its Communs as well as the Belvedere on the Klausberg.

Vom Kellerberg (63 Meter) aus hat man eine großartige Sicht auf den Park Sanssouci, besonders auf das Neue Palais und die Communs, als auch auf das Belvedere auf dem Klausberg.

Gedenksteine – Memorial Stones

During the 19th century the park was only used by the people, who lived in the nearby palaces for their leisure time and for hunting. There are still memorial stones throughout the park that remind the visitor of the great hunting results of the Kings of Prussia.

Während des 19. Jahrhunderts wurde der Park von den Bewohnern genutzt, die in den umliegenden Schlössern lebten. Er diente als Ausflugsziel und zum Jagen. Es gibt im gesamten Park noch Gedenksteine, die den Besucher an die großen Jagderfolge der Preußischen Kaiser erinnern.

Wasserturm – Water Tower

This water tower can be found just outside the Wildpark, at Werderscher Damm.

Dieser Wasserturm befindet sich gleich außerhalb des Wildparks, am Werderschen Damm.
